METAL TRANSFER

Optimisation of the ladle lining technology used in Iron and Steel Foundries can have a very significant impact on the quality of castings produced, and the costs associated with the manufacture.

New electrochemical hydrogen sensors allow real-time measurement of the hydrogen content in aluminium Innovative solutions from KALTEK systems will be demonstrated to show how molten metal, and therefore casting cleanliness, can be improved reducing the potential for scrap or upgrading. Process control is an important aspect of foundry management; improvements can be achieved with the insulating systems providing excellent temperature control in the ladle. The elimination of ladle preheat will have a positive impact on the environment and reduce exposure to constantly increasing energy costs.

METAL TREATMENT

Demand for increased and consistent mechanical and machinability properties in iron castings requires advanced manufacturing techniques.
Metal Stream Inoculation is an essential part of the iron foundry metallurgical process. After more than 3 decades experience with 500 Foseco MSI units in operation worldwide, Foseco has developed the 3rd generation of MSI with dynamic control to answer foundries needs:

  • Consistent nucleation everywhere in the casting cluster
  • Homogenous silicon mapping over the casting cluster
  • Guarantee that the INOCULIN enters the iron stream
  • Cost saving on the in stream inoculation practice
The MSI+ DC system consists of:
  • Hot Box, dosing equipment
Adjusting and weighing the INOCULIN addition according to the iron flow rate during pouring.
  • INOCHECK, digital camera
Checking the correct continuous addition of the INOCULIN, accurately, into the iron stream
  • MSI -ITACA, thermal analysis device
Checking the iron nucleation state and fine tuning the INOCULIN addition
  • Control Unit, touch screen monitor
    Monitoring equipment
    Recording data
