Resin and silicate binder systems for the production of sand moulds and cores.

Sand moulds and sand cores are produced with special binders. The binder system used depends largely on the size, shape and number of moulds or cores to be produced and is also subject to environmental and health and safety considerations.

The moulds and cores must be hard enough to withstand the casting process, but must breakdown after solidification so that the casting can be easily removed from the mould.

Foseco offer a broad range of organic and inorganic mould and core binder systems. Organic binders are almost exclusively synthetic resins, which are hardened by the addition of a catalyst. Inorganic binders are based on sodium silicates which have been optimised to accommodate the varying casting processes, thus guaranteeing best decomposition.
